Research

My research interests generally involve correlated and longitudinal data analyses in the settings of pharmaceutical safety, medical informatics, and epidemiology. While there are a number of challenges faced when analyzing data in these settings, I am interested in planned and unplanned selection mechanisms. Towards planned selection mechanisms, I am involved in the development of efficient outcome dependent sampling designs for longitudinal binary response data in cohort studies (2-phase studies for longitudinal data). Such designs can be highly efficient relative to standard analysis of the entire cohort, while only sampling a fraction of it. These designs are particularly useful when exposure ascertainment is highly expensive (e.g., in studies that examine gene or biomarker by environment interactions). Unplanned selection biases are everywhere in longitudinal data, and I have been focused generally on response history dependent mechanisms that leading to monotic and nonmonotonic missingness, time dependent confounding, and differential intensity of followup.
