Dr. Shintani is an associate professor of biostatistics at Department of Biostatistics, Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a leading biostatistician for the Vanderbilt Center for Health Services Research. She received her Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Yale School of Epidemiology and Public Health in May 2000. Her dissertational work involved development of mathematical models to describe the emergence of drug-resistant mutants of HIV with implications for treatment strategies. Prior to joining the faculty at Vanderbilt, she was an instructor at Yale Nursing School teaching advanced statistics to doctoral students. She also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at West Haven Veterans Affairs Medical Center, CT. Dr. Shintani is currently co-investigator of variety of NIH supported projects mainly for the area of health services and outcome research. One of her papers investigating the effect of ICU induced delirium on clinical outcome won the Newman Prize recognizing it as the best clinical paper published from Vanderbilt for academic year of 2003–2004. She also received a teaching award from Master of Science Clinical Investigation Program for the academic year of 2004-2005.
