Biostatistics Clinics

Monday-Friday Noon-1:15pm

Biostatistics Clinics are a free service staffed by the Department of Biostatistics open to all members of the Vanderbilt and Meharry communities who have methodologic questions about their research projects or about published articles. Each day of the week has a theme. Mentors should usually attend with post-docs, residents, and students. Attendees should select the appropriate clinic day according to the topic schedule below and then email the clinic listserve to reserve a date/time, preferably with the day of the week that you plan to attend in the subject line. Examples of topics we cover frequently are experimental/study design, refining measurements, data analysis, graphical display of data, and interpretation of results.

Email to reserve a time

Coming to clinic? Please Email our statisticians by no later than 9 am on the date you plan to attend (preferably, at least two days in advance) with your topic and attendance date to reserve time for your project. This will help us to have the most appropriate personnel attend that day. If you need to reply to the response, please reply to all, especially if it concerns when you will be attending. Clinics in Medical Center North will not be held on days that no investigator has signed up. The clinic at 2525 West End will be held each Thursday that is not a holiday, whether you sign up in advance or not. See some tips for making the most of Biostatistics Clinic.

Preparing and uploading data for clinic

If you have a relatively simple dataset to be analyzed and the analysis can be concluded during the clinic, you can send your data at least two days in advance to and state which clinic date you would like to attend. Preferred formats are R save files, SPSS save files, Stata data files, and comma separated files ( csv files) exported from a spreadsheet or other software, with variable names in the first record. All subject identifiers must be removed from files before sending them to us (please see the Data De-identification Checklist). Click here for information about readying data for analysis.

PICK To upload de-identified data files to the computer in the Dept. of Biostatistics main conference room at 2525 West End Avenue for the Thursday clinic, click here .
