Vanderbilt has developed a unique resource for biomedical research involving the creation of a synthetic derivative of the electronic medical record which can then be interrogated by itself or in combination with DNA collected from left over blood samples from adults. Consideration is being given to collecting DNA from children as well. In this talk, we will discuss some of the array of ethical and policy challenges and benefits presented by this approach.
