Using the xemacs Package Manager

You can install ESS, AucTeX, RefTeX, and other packages using Tools...Packages but you have to do this as the superuser. Put the following commands in /root/.xemacs/init.el before doing su -c xemacs: 
  (setq efs-generate-anonymous-password "yourID@vanderbilt.edu")
  (setq package-get-require-signed-base-updates nil)
