Selected applications and services

  • twiki - The department's web site is a wiki. A wiki is "a page or collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content, using a simplified markup language". The particular type of wiki that we use is called "TWiki". TWiki is described as "a flexible, powerful, secure, and simple web-based collaboration platform". We use TWiki as the tool for the development and maintenance of virtually all content on the department's web site. There is a comprehensive user's guide and information about all the plug-in on the Welcome to TWiki page. We recommend that you read it. (Dale)

  • webcalendar - WebCalendar is a PHP-based calendar application. With appropriate configuration, WebCalendar is a schedule management system for a single person, a schedule management system for a group of people, and an events schedule that anyone can view. (dale)

  • Computing Clinic (dale) - A Discussion Forum for Anything Related to Computing and Linux.

  • datahippo - Data Hippo is a file transfer service which provides end to end encryption to multiple recipients. The service provides file transfer expiration times and only allow each recipient one download. Data-Hippo notifies the uploader when ever a recipient downloads a file. Upon file expiration the upload receives an email listing which recipients did not download the file. (thomas)

Servers

  • biostat - a custom built system with two Intel Xeon processors, 3 GB of main memory, and 160 GB of mirrored disk storage. This system hosts the department's web site and calendar.
  • biostat2 - this system is dedicated to running the Win4Lin? system.
  • biostat3 - this system performs the daily backups of the department's workstations.
  • statcomp - a custom built system with two 64-bit AMD Opteron 250 (2.4 GHz) processors, 16 GB main memory, 250 GB of mirrored disk storage. This system acts as a compute server. Its primary purpose is to run jobs written in the R programming language that need fast processors and/or large amounts of memory. The server's operating system is 64-bit Linux.
  • data - a custom built system with two 64-bit AMD Opteron (2.0 GHz) processors, 4 GB main memory, 200 GB of mirrored disk storage. This system acts as a database and web server. The server's operating system is 64-bit Linux. This system hosts some web applications.
