Summer 2019 Reading Group

Goal: read and discuss the "Statistical Inference in the 21st Century: A World Beyond p < 0.05" issue of The American Statistician and the related Nature article

Schedule: Wednesdays in June and July, 1:30--2:30 (9 meetings total, or maybe fewer--- there might be a few seminars scheduled)

Possibilities for structure/format (please add ideas if you want; we'll vote later):

  • everyone sits and reads (or skims) for an hour, with conversations on our own afterwards
  • we each read 5 articles in advance and discuss whatever we want for an hour
  • 5 people each present on a different article for 12 minutes
  • Narrow it down to 9 articles and focus on 1 each week
  • Select a subset of 9*2 or 9*3 articles to focus on, and discuss 2 or 3 each meeting
